Q: Please state your name, location and occupation.
A: My name is Deena Norris and I’m the owner, singer/entertainer and DJ at Rhinestone Music. I am located about 60 miles west of Chicago in Somonauk, Illinois. My business covers a very large area including all of Illinois, Southern Wisconsin, Northwest Indiana and parts of Michigan.
Q: How did you hear about NAME Entertainers?
A: I have had a membership for several years. I researched online when looking for business insurance.
Q: How does being a NAME member help you?
A: I truly enjoy networking with other professionals in my field, especially those with women-owned businesses (like NAME Entertainers).
Q: How did you begin getting into music?
A: I began singing and performing at the age of 10, I’m kind of a ham…lol. I had great music teachers all through school and college and they really helped mold me into the entertainer I am today.
Q: When did it become a profession for you?
A: I had always wanted to become a singer/actor all my life so I knew one day I would make it a profession. I performed for my first wedding when I was 17, that was my first “paid” gig! Since then I have been performing at all kinds of events either as a solo performer and in cover bands or as a DJ/host.
Q: How long have you been in the industry?
A: Since I was 17 years old.
Q: What kind of services does Rhinestone Music offer?
A: Live music shows for a variety of audiences including senior centers, church events and kids programs. I also have a duo/acoustic act that I perform and write music with my husband who plays guitar and a number of other instruments. We perform all genres of music from all generations. Another branch of Rhinestone Music is the DJ service. I professionally DJ for weddings, corporate events, parties and festivals and provide karaoke services as well as trivia and theme nights. We also offer full service sound and sound engineering for bands and festivals and my husband has over 35 years experience with sound engineering. I offer private music and theater lessons to kids and young adults to help improve and enhance their talent and increase their knowledge of the performing arts. Also offered through Rhinestone Music are uplighting and photo booth services.
Q: Why should someone hire you?
A: Rhinestone Music is committed to the highest quality entertainment at every event, whether performing for 10 or 1,000 people. We perform at over 150 shows a year and pride ourselves in knowing what music is appropriate in what settings and make sure everyone has a great time! We are dependable, ethical and put our clients first. Our equipment is top of the line and we have over 35+ years experience in live entertainment that we bring to every show or event.
Rhinestone Music is a small, family-owned business. A portion of the income from each show goes to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation which is a critical part of our lives. My daughter was diagnosed with CF at age 8 and because of her ongoing treatment, owning my own business and being able to work nights and weekends has been a huge blessing. Having a 9 to 5 job with my daughter’s illness was not an option. The CF Foundation has been a huge part of making sure she has the medications and new drugs and treatments she needs which is why we are a huge supporter of this organization.
Q: Who are your favorite musicians and why?
A: Bon Jovi is one of my favorite musicians! We appreciate not only their music but their commitment to fans and non-profit organizations such as Soul Foundation and Habitat for Humanity. We believe in giving back to others less fortunate and Bon Jovi has a great history of doing just that. Other influences include Pat Benetar, Gordon Lightfoot, Elvis, Charlie Daniels, David Gilmour, BB King, Buddy Guy, George Strait, Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers.
Q: What are your plans for the future?
A: Plans include the expansion of Rhinestone Music to employ other musicians, DJs and entertainers. We look for upcoming talent and encourage and promote student musicians and entertainers. We love supporting other small business owners and giving back to our community so in the future we would like to do more of that!
